When flavors meet culture: a fun Hanoi food tour with Chantal's family

From the very first “Hello,” Chantal’s lovely family of four from Australia brought sunshine to Hanoi’s streets. Let’s join them on today’s food journey with us!

Chihara - our companion guided everyone through Hanoi’s hidden gems, tasting local street food and uncovering the stories behind each dish. Among them all, “bánh cuốn” - steamed rolled rice pancakes and “bánh rán” - Vietnamese donuts became instant favorites.

But today wasn’t just about food. Can you guess one of the biggest reasons why our family came to Vietnam? Without a doubt, Vietnamese coffee! Chantal’s been a huge fan of egg coffee just by hearing about this iconic drink, and she had to visit its home country to try it. And yes - it was absolutely worth the trip!

Coming from a seaside hometown, Hanoi seems so different and full of surprises to our Aussie crew. That curiosity made the journey much more special, even to our little explorers: Luca loved hearing stories about Vietnam’s history, while Olive was delighted to pick up new Vietnamese phrases wherever she could!

Come explore Hanoi with us through the photos below.👇

We started off at the “bánh đa cua” - red noodle soup stall. Look at little Olive took over our vendor’s tiny seat - the cutest “mini chef”!
Munch munch munch, what a big bite! Our girl loved red noodle soup so much that she slurped up the whole bowl all by herself in a blink of an eye!

Next stop, Luca tried “bánh khúc” - Vietnamese cudweed cake, wrapped in “dong” leaves. Another traditional dish that every local Hanoian loves.
Here comes our friends’ favorite treat of the day: “bánh rán” - Vietnamese donuts. Luca was so excited to try and share how different they were from the donuts back home!
Crispy on the outside, sweet and soft with mung bean filling on the inside. Imagine munching on this little yummy ball while wandering around Hanoi’s streets!

And the moment Chantal’s been waiting for: The first sip of Vietnamese iconic egg coffee. Just by looking at her we know that it’s totally worth it!
Meanwhile, little Olive chose watermelon juice - sweet and refreshing! She also practiced Vietnamese phrases with Chihara. Our girl enjoyed it so much!

What a lovely day with Chantal’s family, especially our 2 energetic little explorers. Chihara and us will miss you guys so much!
